173/365: Sonorific Horseshoes

I don't often find uses for an 11mm lens, but this worked out well.

172/365: Artifical Wholesomeness

I think the most natural part of this is the box it came in.

This is exactly as shot; no alterations of any kind.

It was an awesome weekend. And I slept a lot.

168/365: Lauren of the night

This impromptu session was a total blast; I hope this is a sign of things to come.

163/365: Warm filler

This little cold snap has resulted in Isabella leaving my bed even less frequently than usual. She's been curled up on my fuzzy Miho blanket all day.

Today had a lot of activities, including a completely-flat truck tire, antics on the roof, three shopping trips, corned beef brisket, strawberry shortcake, Tales of Monkey Island, checkbook balancing, and a new mailbox, but I didn't think to take pictures of anything. D'oh.

Meanwhile, it's barely over 40F (5C) outside, not counting the wind chill. It's a good night for snuggling. I may even end up with more than one cat! Too bad the down comforter is at the dry cleaner's, thanks to the cats.

162/365: Curiousity

Well, it's less a matter of curiourity so much as OOOOOSHINY!

161/365: Document Retention Policy

Whenever an organization talks about "document retention policy" this is what they're really referring to.

Domain registrar recommendations?

In a couple of months, one of my domains is up for renewal. I've been using Dotster for years now, ever since I ran screaming from Verisign nee Network Solutions back in the day, but my eye is wandering.

Mainly because Dotster does not, nor does it have any plans to, support DNSSEC and IPv6 glue records.

If this goes well, then I'll be moving the rest over as they eventually expire.

159/365: More product shots

Since I'm under the weather recovering from the first half of the rework of my root canal, I finally got around to getting more of the product shots done for work.

158/365: Just look up

This was taken the night before I was to go in for an emergency root canal. I was well and truly fried, barely able to hold the damn camera up.

It's not a good sign when your dentist refers you to a specalist. In aboout twelve hours, I'll find out if I'm going to lose a frankentooth. I'm not geting my hopes up.

152/365: Ladies, eat your heart out

...Dracula would probbly literally eat your heart out if given the chance. He's developed a taste for blood, judging by the number of scars on my ex-wife.

151/365: Suggestive Buttoning

If I'm going to continue this sort of photography, I really need a proper tripod/rig to hold the camera steady. I was using the 60mm macro with three extension tubes here, and the viewfinder image was shaking like it was about to go into the oven.

Nevermind that simply breathing was enough to knock the focus off by slightly tilting the camera -- which when you're talking about a depth of field of under 2mm, gave the inconsistent results you see here.

So once the kitchen work is done, I think a new tripod is in order. The one I have is ginormous and meant to handle 20lb video cameras, and as such isn't really useful for delicate close-up work.

148/365: Happy Houseplant

Three of the four large Coliuses Kim left behind have died off (due to some sort of parasitic infection) but the fourth is still blooming. This is one of the leaves of the fifth, smaller plant that's enjoying the morning sun.

It's sort of sad, but I consider it a point of pride that my plants are thriving; Kim was the one with the green thumb. Granted, most of them are Spider Plants, which are pretty much impossible to kill, but there's also a 10-foot-long golden pothos, a day lily, and a lone fern rounding things out.

147/365: Sunset

Been a while since I've got a decent sunset shot. A shame about the light pole in the middle.. Alas, I wasn't able to get into a good position for the truly spectacular bit.
