Workspaces

I started a new job about a month ago. This is half of one of my desks. I have three computers (with four screens, eleven virtual desktops and five virtual machines spread across them), four embedded systems plugged in and two more that aren't, and maybe half a dozen radio modules scattered around. Ain't being "the software guy" fun?

Whee, more projects

Since my last update, I took on two more projects. While cleaning out the study, I decided that my desk really needed refinishing. The shots aren't apples to oranges due to the lighting, but here's a before and after:

The left side is where I've sanded down the surface to the bare wood, the rest is the really nasty surface that kept giving me splinters. After much sanding, two coats of red mahogany stain and three coats of high gloss polyurethane later, it looks like this:

Not bad, eh? I only redid the desktop; there's a side surface that I'll take care of next week (time permitting) but daaaaamn, a pretty good return on time investment!

The second project was that I decided to rip out the carpet from the study, put down hardwood, and repaint the room. I'll spare you the horror of the before shot, but here's the current, floor-just-put-down "almost after" work in progress shot:

The trim still needs painting and quarter-round installed, but I'll start on that once the floor adhesive has cured (around sunset tonight). And then I can move the stuff back into the study and finish the purple bedroom.

Oh, in the closet is ShaftNet, the server that powers this site. Ph43r t3h l333t 1z!

Ah, a good morning's work.

When I first moved into this house, I put my bookshelves in the area near the front door. They got rearranged out of here into the aptly-named "book room" when Crystal moved her books in with mine. Now, many, many years later, the bookshelves are back, and this room is once again a nice reading room, albeit now with a nice bamboo floor.

I have a lot of non-book stuff to move out of the old "study" still, but for now I'm calling it quits and heading to the beach for some R&R. It's beautiful outside, and I'm not going to waste a day like this working (or resting) indoors when I don't have to.

After I get back, I'll start cleaning out the back room so I can move my desk in there. It's been used for little more than a store room since I moved in; I see a lot of stuff being thrown out this weekend!
